Our government sent us a scary message recently by passing laws that clearly left us in charge of providing for ourselves in case of catastrophic illness. Hospital stays are getting shorter. When care is needed for weeks, months or years, most health insurance plans, including Medicare, offer very limited coverage if they offer any.
